Shilo is a gentle giant, she is a quiet girl with beautiful manners and a calm nature. She is the kind of dog who doesn't demand constant attention and is quite happy doing her own thing, whether that's relaxing on the veranda or entertaining herself with a few toys.
As a German Shepherd, Shilo embodies many of the wonderful traits the breed is known for. German Shepherds are intelligent, loyal, protective, and deeply devoted to their families. They naturally make excellent guardians and form strong bonds with their people. Because of these breed-specific characteristics, Shilo is best suited to a home with someone who has previous German Shepherd or large breed experience and understands their needs.
One thing Shilo absolutely loves is her food! Her love of treats has helped make training a rewarding experience, particularly when it comes to building her recall. She already knows all of her basic commands and walks beautifully on lead, especially once she's had the opportunity to engage her natural scenting instincts and satisfy her smell drive.
Shilo is a well-balanced girl who remains calm around her environment. She does not react to dogs barking through fences or to the neighbourhood dogs around her. She would be happiest as an only dog or with a similar-sized large breed male companion. Shilo is not suitable for homes with small dogs or cats.
At her current foster home, her humans are around more often than not, although she has previously been left alone for short periods without issue. She is not a clingy dog and enjoys having her own space, often choosing to relax outdoors rather than follow her people from room to room.
Due to her gentle and reserved nature, Shilo would be best suited to a home with no young children. Older, dog-savvy children aged 12 years and over may be considered.
