Barley is a sweet and placid girl. She currently lives with two human foster parents and four doggy foster siblings.
Barley hasn’t had a great start in life isolated from the outside world and came into care scared and shut down. Although she is still quite timid and anxious, she is doing well in learning how to interact with the world, how to trust people and not to be scared all the time. She becomes better at all those things every day.
Despite her good progress so far, Barley is not very social with people yet and won’t come to you for cuddles or pats. This level of connection may take weeks or even months to build. Having said that, Barley lets us pat, groom and handle her without an issue. At this stage she is scared of a collar and a lead and is not ready to go outside yet. We believe she will be able to do this with time and desensitisation.
She has settled into her foster home routine well. She is a clever girl who learns quickly. She is a quiet girl, she doesn’t bark and prefers a good snooze on her bed to any other activity.
She sleeps through the night and is fully toilet trained.
She is perfectly fine being left home alone.
Barley gets along well with other dogs of all sizes and sexes. She is a calm and submissive girl and is good with cats and other small animals.
Despite being nervous and unsure, she has never been aggressive and doesn’t have a mean bone in her body.
Barley is looking for a quieter home (older, respectful kids are ok) and a patient and understanding family committed to support her progress with their time, care and loving guidance.
Due to having limited exposure to humans please understand that Barley will not be the sort of dog that will run up to you for cuddles. She will hide and be avoidant and this may take many weeks for her to feel comfortable.
In return, she will give back a lifetime of unconditional love and loyal companionship.
